Dandy Animal Fables (Black Back), 1971

File — Box: CFC Fables Cards Box 1
Identifier: CFC2018.0284.1-200
Abstract These cards are divided into stories, with as many as twelve cards going to one story. Four titles (Danish, English, German, and French) at the top of the card introduce four brief texts in verse. The stories include various types, including Aesopic fable: FG (#13-18), BW (#19-25), "The Fox, the Lamb, and the Little Mouse" (#39-44), FS (#66-72), DS (#101-107), WL (#108-114), FK (#115-121), "The Bad Turn" ("The Bear and the Gardener," #121-128), "The Porcupine and the Hare" (#129-140), "The...

Fable Series--1 to 50., 1913

File — Box: CFC Cigarette Cards Box 1
Identifier: CFC2018.0274.1-50
Abstract

Delightful colored pictures and simple, straightforward tellings. With Murray, I arrange them alphabetically. I find no way to identify a number on the cards themselves. About 2¾" x 3 1/8". Though it may be disguised here through clever cropping, most of these cards have bumped corners. Among some pleasing art, my prizes for visual effect go to "The Blind Man and the Whelp," "The Fox and the Woodman," "The Mice in Council," and "The Peacock and the Crane."

Fable Series--51 to 100, 1913

Abstract Delightful colored pictures and simple, straightforward tellings. Like Murray, I arrange them alphabetically. I find no way to identify a number on the cards themselves. About 2¾" x 3 1/8". Though it may be disguised here through clever cropping, most of these cards have bumped corners. In this set, there are several cards in fair and even poor condition. For this set, I have had to work hard on Ebay to find cards not available from Murray and to improve on some in the Murray set that were...

Fables and Their Morals - "Number by Caption, 1912

File — Box: CFC Cigarette Cards Box 1
Identifier: CFC2018.0277.1-206
Abstract Fables and Their Morals. 100 Designs in Set. Issued by Gallaher Ltd., Belfast & London. Gallaher issued apparently three sets of 100 cards, 1½" x 2½". The illustrations, nicely detailed for their size, are identical in each set. The picture side always features "Gallaher's Cigarettes" and a block-print title on the colored picture, with "Copyright" in the lower right corner. The design of each set's verso differs slightly. One finds the title of the series, a title, a fable text, a...

Fables of Aesop, 1927

File — Box: CFC Cigarette Cards Box 2
Identifier: CFC2018.0280.1-25
Abstract

Excellent reproductions in good condition. All but two ("The Covetous Man and the Goose" [#6] and DM [#23]) match my reprint of the 1668 Ogilby The Fables of Aesop Paraphras'd in Verse. Unusually squat size for cigarette cards. My favorites in this group include "The Dog and the Thief" (X), "The Husbandman and the Serpent" (XVII), and the classic LM (XX).
